Recruitment in the summer months can be a challenging experience
- The weather (and the World Cup!)
- Decisions makers go on leave
- Your recruitment contact goes on holiday
- Potential applicants are busy on site (Education sector in particular)
However, in my experience it is also a great opportunity to steal a march on the competition with an effective recruitment plan.
My top tips
- Decide when you want someone to start – A typical recruitment process from start to finish takes 6 weeks (including notice period).
Then work your way back to make this start date feasible
- Agree a date when you can review CV’s – This creates urgency with the agency and helps manage the applicants’ expectations.
- Decide when you can interview – Let the agency know and they can pre-warn all applicants to check work diaries.
- Create a job specification (or job summary email) – include selling points about your role and why someone should join the business.
- Arrange a call with your chosen agency and share your plan – Hopefully this is Fern Recruitment (please visit www.fernrecruitment.co.uk for more information)
- Stick to the plan – Not always easy but minimising change increases your chances of success as all parties (client, agency and applicant) are working towards the same deadline.
Having been in recruitment for nearly 30 years, the best campaigns I’ve worked on are the ones that are well thought out with clear timeframes.
Fern Recruitment are specialists in the water and building services sector, with contacts across the UK and a strong network of potential employees from graduate to senior management. I hope we can be your pathway to success
