Making an effective Atomic Habit

Have you ever read the book ‘Atomic Habits’ by James Clear?

If you haven’t it’s very thought provoking and should certainly be a personal or business book for your 2026 bucket list

Bestseller book Atomic Habits by James Clear

An Atomic Habit is to focus on a positive behavioural change, and then make a small adjustment to the way you act whether that be in your personal or working life.

This could be:

Getting up 30 minutes earlier to do some exercise
Meditating for 10 minutes at the end of the day
Creating a daily or weekly business plan to provide structure to your working day
Or even spending 15 minutes sitting and doing nothing allowing your mind time to rest.

To help make a change:

Define your identify – Find a goal that you want to achieve
Use habit stacking –Use an existing habit to build upon
Apply the two-minute rule – Keep the change small so it is easier to insert into your day
Design your environment – Work out how, when and where you are going to implement this habit – keep it simple!
Track your progress – Use a visual reminder to remind you of your success
Don’t break the chain – Be consistent in your habit so it becomes part of your daily or weekly routine

I have identified 3 changes for this year

A personal challenge around exercise.
A work-related goal to maintain clarity.
A well-being goal which supports 1 & 2.

Make a small change, which over time makes a BIG difference – That’s the plan…I’ll let you know how I get on

Have a great weekend!
